The Hunger Games - Mockingjay - The Hanging Tree

To all of you who liked the movie and the song that inspired and united the rebellion against the Capitol, here is a simple transcription of "The Hanging Tree" melody as sung by Katniss Everdeen. Lyrics and YouTube video below.

The Hanging Tree

Mockingjay

Are you, Are you
Coming to the tree
Where they strung up a man they say murdered three
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree

Are you, Are you
Coming to the tree
Where the dead man called out for his love to flee
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree

Are you, Are you
Coming to the tree
Where I told you to run, so we'd both be free
Strange things did happen here
No stranger would it be
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.

Are you, Are you
Coming to the tree
Wear a necklace of rope, side by side with me.
Strange things did happen here,
No stranger would it be,
If we met up at midnight in the hanging tree.

QEbu – An advanced metadata editor

EBUCore is a multimedia metadata standard proposed by the EBU expert community on metadata. It consists of a specification, an XML Schema and a set of dictionaries for well-known attributes values. Metadata documents following EBUCore conventions are intuitive and flexible in their structure but, of course, are difficult to compose without the help of a proper tool. To avoid the unconstrained and error prone approach of writing metadata by-hand as common XML files, a desktop application in charge of creating, editing and validating them needed to be developed.

QEbu

QEbu is a GUI metadata editor for EBUCore compliant documents. Is has been coded in C++ using the Qt graphic library by a team of five MSc students (of which I was member) as a term project for the last year Multimedia Archival Techniques course. Now that we have all graduated as computer software engineers, at Politecnico di Torino, we are determined to follow QEbu steep path towards EBU adoption.

Krita 2.4 beta

This article is the Italian translation of this post by French artist David Revoy. I have published this to help spread the news about Krita features to non-English speaking people.

Krita

NetDesk - Project presentation

NetDesk
To pass an examination - Programmazione di Sistema (System Programming) - we were required to develop a software that boost collaborative work across a network. The application had to be a client-server system and had to meet several requirments. Since I have worked on it nearly all the summer, it would have been a pity if I had not posted anything here on my blog. It is also the first complete and fully functional GUI application that I have ever developed: one more reason why it should be hosted in the projects section of this website.

Windows 8 Developer Preview

Last week Microsoft presented Windows 8 to the developer community gathered at Anaheim, California. The lucky lads who were there received nothing less than a prototype Samsung tablet with 4 GiB RAM, Intel Core i5, built-in 3G card (with one year AT&T subscription) and an installed image of Windows 8 Developer Preview.

You can read more about the event at this site.

Samsung PC

If you were not there in California, you can download from here the ISO of the OS and install it on a virtual machine, like I have done.

Chrome-less

Trasformation

[referring to new metro-style IE version] It’s also completely chrome-less - if you notice - and I don’t think anything is better than an entirely chrome free browsing experience.

- Steven Sinofsky President, Windows and Windows Live Division, Microsoft.

That is one barb Mr Sinofsky threw to Microsoft’s competitors last week, during the introductory session of BUILD conference.

If you are familiar with the concept of chrome-less, you already know it means for an application to be focused on content and not on controls. For example, a full screen application without any menu bar is chrome-less.

So, what does this software philosophy have to do with web design? Maybe nothing, I just bring it out to describe the idea behind the new layout I’ve designed for my site.

Do you like it? Let me know :).

È quanto dimostreremo agevolmente nelle prossime pagine.
